Generation No. 1

1.  Samuel1 Burks, Sr. was born Abt. 1680 in Hanover, Albemarle Co., Virginia, and died Bef. February 12, 1756 in St. Anne's Parish, Albemarle Co., Virginia.  He married Mary Davis Abt. 1703 in Hanover, Albemarle Co., Virginia, daughter of Nathaniel Davis and Mary Hughes.

Notes for Samuel Burks, Sr.:
Came from England about the last of the seventeenth century. Settled in New Kent county, VA, later known as Hanover county.
His will was drawn up in St. Ann's Parish, Albemarle county, VA, in 1755, probated in 1756 (Will Book, p. 23-24) It mentions his wife Mary, his sons Samuel, Jr., Richard, John Peartree, Charles and daughters Elizabeth Cabell, Mary Smith, and a grandson Samuel Burks, son of Samuel Jr.

3.  Samuel2 Burks, Jr (Samuel1) was born Abt. 1700 in Albemarle Co., Virginia, and died Bef. July 12, 1753 in Albemarle Co., Virginia.  He married Elizabeth ? Abt. 1723.

Betty Casey gives 1784 as death date.

Will probated 1754 in Albemarle County, VA. He died before his father. The wills of Samuel Burks, SR, and Samuel Burks, Jr. can be found in the Virginia State Library in Richmond. Photostatic copies were also donated to the Library in Bedford. Children of Samuel Burks, Jr. mentioned in the will along with his wife Elizabeth: Richard, George, John, Charles, Elizabeth, Mary, Million, Samuel and David. Also mentioned in the will was 800 acres of land on Pedlar Creek divided between Richard, John, Charles and David Burks.
